BRATS. English essay. ( by Words )
In the course of my 16 years life, I’ve always been laughed and teased for my name when they first get to know it, Jia Tong. Of course, on first thoughts, most would think of ‘ tong sampah ‘ ( rubbish bin ) ,and studying in an international school, having mixed races of mostly Korean, they would all laugh when they first heard of my name, as ‘’tong’’ meant ‘’dung’’ in the Korean language. Of course, I used to detest my own name when I was young. Little did I know, people who learnt and knew Chinese words complimented that I actually have a very special name. Giving not much thoughts to it, I came to know myself as ‘’ Tong Tong ’’, the name family members used to address me since young. Born in the year of 1994, in the month of July on the 17th.
Being the eldest amongst the four of my siblings, mum has always thought me to lead since young and to take care of the younger ones and to hold the responsibility. Sure enough, growing up in a big family was never easy. In fact, when I was still young and had not come to senses, loathed it. Why do I need to share my things? Why do I have to wash their poop? Why do I have to be the one that take care of them when mummy and daddy are not around? Life is unfair, isn’t it? As I grew older, I secretly thanked God that He had given me such a big blessed family. If anything, family comes first. Who’d be the one to support you when you fall? Who’d be the one that lend you the shoulder and listening ear all the time? Who’d be the one to be there for you at all costs? What could I do without them?
I’ve always wondered and pondered about my grandfather who was a journalist 20 years ago, for I’ve always dreamed of following his footsteps. However, he ended his last breath when my mother was only 15 years old. Dying of cancer in his 30s, I’ve never really got the chance to meet him. Sure enough, my mom has always talked and pictured him as the most knowledgeable man she had known and she had always said I acquired the love of writing and reading from him. I think reading and writing really does fulfill our free time wisely and am beneficial. I was greatly inspired by a man I’ve never met. Besides that, I loved studying history, analyzing and learning events that had happened in the world.
I never was a brilliant kid in kindy, nor was I the brightest student in primary. I was never the brilliant student in high school either; sure, I had my share of achievements and also failure. Loving literature more than mathematics, getting an A+ in arts and a C- in science, yet, I’ve chosen to take the Science Stream over the Business Class. I am not as intelligent as Albert Einstein, but I’m not as dumb as a fool either. I’m not as loyal as a dog, but I could be the one that lends the listening ear and the one to be ready to lend you the shoulder to cry on. Now, I am currently pursuing my high school education at Utama International School.
I wasn’t a straight A’s student, but when it comes to studies; I give in effort to the point of my capability. Loving outdoors more than staying in, I’ve lavished my time mostly in sports and was once an athlete in Sri Garden School. Running is my passion. Not only for keeping myself fit and healthy, running gets me off all my worries and frustrations. Whenever in doubt, I would bring myself to the complex to run, either to think things through while running, or totally forgetting it. Other than being on the track, mum has always trained me playing the piano and violin since young. Playing instruments could keep your mind off from the outside world, and it brings you into a whole new world you had yet to discover.

Being a Malaysian, I’ve always been proud of my own country and sure enough, Malaysian food has always been on top of my priority list. Who could resist our multicultural and ethnic choices of food? Listing from the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Nyonya, and various more. We have the infamous Nasi Lemak , Curry Laksa, roti canai, rendang, hokkien mee, char kuey teow, not to forget the Kajang Satay, the Ipoh Chicken rice, nasi kerabu, and an uncountable variety of Nyonya desserts, and many more. We are sure blessed with the various mouth watering delicacies to choose from. Going abroad, which Malaysian would not miss our sambal and nasi lemak ? When I went to Paris a few years back, consuming mostly on French bread, steaks, and Parisian food every day, I soberly missed the nasi lemak rendang and asam laksa very much. Sure, they do have it in Paris, but do you think it’s as mouth watering as the ones we could get near the mamak store at our house? Moreover, we could get nasi lemak rendang for RM 5.00 here in Malaysia, but in Paris, it’s priced normally at 10 Euro, RM 50 if converted, almost impossible for us Malaysians to afford. Malaysian food are sure, irresistible.
I’ve always loved taking up challenges and experiencing new things. One thing I’ve learnt, no matter how much gold you have, experiences could never be bought. Cliff diving was my most exciting achievement so far, but till now, I’ve never really gotten over bridges on high places. They totally freak me out. Loving adventures since young, I love trying on new things.
